    For patients with any life-threatening illness:
    Volunteers will drive to/from doctor's appointments, radiation, chemotherapy. 24 hour notice is necessary. Patients may call directly to enroll in service which is free of charge.

    For cancer patients: American Cancer Society will arrange volunteers to drive to/from radiation, chemotherapy and doctor's appointments. 24 hours notice is necessary.

    For persons with temporary or permanent disability (cannot physically ride the regular bus):

    Monterey County RIDES Program

    Clients must first register with Monterey Salinas Transit; Approval is needed to enroll in program; process takes approximately three weeks. Van that accommodates wheelchairs is available for medical appointments. Clients may book rides as much as 14 days in advance, with a minimum of 24 hours notice.
    Van does not offer same day service, even in emergencies.

    Rides Reimbursed Taxi Program
    Some clients prefer to use a taxi; RIDES passengers can get partial reimbursement. After paying the taxi driver, client must get complete receipt. RIDES will reimburse one-half of the fare, or a maximum of $45 per month.

    Veteran's Van Service

    Provides vets with transportation to and from Veteran's Administration Centers; Also provides rides for spouses to visit hospitalized veterans.
